Topics: humility, purpose, passion, service, worship
I. God is great - A heart of worship
- Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God (Psalm 90:1, 2).
- "Even from eternity I am He, and there is none who can deliver out of My hand; I act and who can reverse it?" (Isaiah 43:13).
II. Man is frail - A heart of humility
- You turn man back into dust and say,"Return, O children of men." For a thousand years in Your sight are like yesterday when it passes by, or as a watch in the night. You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; in the morning they are like grass which sprouts anew. In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; toward evening it fades and withers away (Psalm 90:3-6).
- For we have been consumed by Your anger and by Your wrath we have been dismayed. You have placed our iniquities before You, our secret sins in the light of Your presence. For all our days have declined in Your fury; we have finished our years like a sigh (Psalm 90:7-9).
III. Life is short - A heart of passion
- As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, or if due to strength, eighty years, yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; for soon it is gone and we fly away. Who understands the power of Your anger and Your fury, according to the fear that is due You? (Psalm 90:10, 11).
- So teach us to number our days, that we may present to You a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12).
IV. There is purpose - A heart of service
- Do return, O Lord; how long will it be? And be sorry for Your servants. O satisfy us in the morning with Your lovingkindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Make us glad according to the days You have afflicted us, and the years we have seen evil (Psalm 90:13-15).
- Let Your work appear to Your servants and Your majesty to their children. Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us; and confirm for us the work of our hands; yes, confirm the work of our hands (Psalm 90:16, 17).

Life group flow and discussion questions
Cultivate a heart of wisdom
An important Guideline of Life Groups: One key to healthy Life Group interactions is application of biblical truths. Wisdom is applying God's eternal knowledge in our lives. How can your group inspire greater obedience to Scripture?
Getting Started:
- Who are some people who have spoken wisdom into your life that guided your decisions? Did you learn vicariously or by poor choices?
- How does Moses' "Rocking Chair Perspective" in Psalm 90 help us to number our days, that we may present to God a heart of wisdom?
Discussing Truths:
- Moses saw the Lord as his dwelling place. Do you look forward to "the city which has foundations, whose architect and builder is God" (Hebrews 11:10)? How are you storing up treasures for that city (Matthew 6:19-21)?
- What do you do to cultivate a heart of worship, a heart of humility, a heart of passion and a heart of service?
- How do you want your life to be a blessing to others?
- Why must God judge sin? Realize that sin always leads to death: the death of dreams, hopes, plans, relationships, health and to physical death as well as spiritual death for some. How is God's will for life the remedy to this death cycle?
- How does a spirit of service and the eternal work of our hands flow from the Lord's lovingkindness for us (Psalm 90:13-17)?
Now What? Application:
- Make a plan to develop a quiet confidence in God as your steadfast hope and remove any narcissistic idea that life is all about you!
- Pray to live your life with the end in view and seek to find your satisfaction in God Himself and actively serve Him with your time, talents and treasures for an eternal reward in heaven.
