Fearless faith in God

Topics: God, faith, faith in God

I. Applaud the attributes of God

  1. The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread? (Psalm 27:1).
  2. He says, "It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob and to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also make You a light of the nations so that My salvation may reach to the end of the earth" (Isaiah 49:6).
  3. When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, my heart will not fear; though war arise against me, in spite of this I shall be confident (Psalm 27:2, 3).

II. Pursue the presence of God

  1. One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple (Psalm 27:4).
  2. When You said, "Seek My face," my heart said to You, "Your face, O Lord, I shall seek" (Psalm 27:8).
  3. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit (2 Corinthians 3:18).

III. Walk the ways of God

  1. For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me up(Psalm 27:10).
  2. Teach me Your way, O Lord, and lead me in a level path because of my foes. Do not deliver me over to the desire of my adversaries, for false witnesses have risen against me, and such as breathe out violence (Psalm 27:11, 12).
  3. I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord (Psalm 27:13, 14).

Life group flow and discussion questions

Fearless faith in God

An important Guideline of Life Groups: Helping people coup with fear in the midst of calamity is part of the empathy of ministry. How can your Life Group comfort one another like 2 Corinthians 1:3-5 exhorts?

Getting Started:

  1. What is the difference between the "fear of the Lord" (Proverbs 9:10) and having a fearless faith in God?
  2. David was in some kind of crisis, but he still maintained his focus; how can we keep our faith focused on God during trials of life?

Discussing Truths:

  1. What are some of your favorite attributes of our God? How can we "applaud His attributes"?
  2. If the Lord is your light and your salvation and the defense of your life; then how and why does that dispel your fears?
  3. How do you pursue the presence of God in your personal walk with Him?
  4. What do you learn from Psalm 27:4 that gives you insight into why David is called a "man after God's heart" (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22)?
  5. How can we "behold the glory of the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18) and become transformed into Christ-like image?
  6. Have you or someone you know ever experienced the pain of rejection from parents? How does Psalm 27:10 offer hope and healing?
  7. Why do we need to be taught "God's way" (Psalm 27:11; Isaiah 55:8, 9)?
  8. How should we "wait for the Lord"?

Now What? Application:

  1. If you feel anxious or fearful; how can you apply 1 Peter 5:6, 7?
  2. Do you believe that you will see "the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living"? How does that alleviate any despair that you've been feeling (Psalm 27:13, 14)?
