Topics: God, Jesus, lamb
I. O.T. Anticipation: "Where is the Lamb"?
* The sacrificial LAMB offers a clear "TYPE" of the Messiah!
- Isaac spoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father!" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the lamb for the burnt offering?" Abraham said, "God will provide for Himself the lamb for the burnt offering, my son" (Genesis 22:7, 8a).
- All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way but the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him. He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth (Isaiah 53:6, 7).
II. N.T. Realization: "Behold the Lamb!"
* The LAMB of God arrived in the world on God's precise schedule!
- But when the fullness of the time came, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law, so that He might redeem those who were under the Law, that we might receive the adoption as sons (Galatians 4:4, 5).
- The next day he saw Jesus coming to him and said, "Behold, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29).
- Conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your stay on earth; knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ (1 Peter 1:17b-19).
III. Our anticipation: "Worthy is the lamb!"
* The LAMB of God alone is worthy to open the book of redemption!
- [Many angels] saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing" (Revelation 5:12).
- "And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony" (Revelation 12:11a).
