Good Friday: Shelter in Jesus

Topics: Jesus Christ our shelter

The Coronavirus has captured the world's attention. But there is another Deadly Virus called SIN! During PASSOVER they sheltered in homes with a blood covering We shelter in Jesus with His blood cleansing us from all sin! Obstacles that block one's view! Obstructed views impede one's experience!

Many attend church services (even online) hoping to experience God. Too often people mistake an emotional or inspirational experience with an encounter with God. But it often leaves people disillusioned when the feelings fade. The problem with this kind of thinking is that experiencing God is so much more than an emotional pick-me-up. It is a dynamic loving relationship with our gracious Lord.

So why do we struggle to draw close to God?

Many of us come to church trying to experience God while failing to remove our own obstacle . . . called sin.

I John 1:7-9

7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Confession restores fellowship and we experience God's presence, His peace, His Joy!

Confession should be specific:

  • Critical spirit/negative attitude
  • Selfishness/narcissism
  • Pride/arrogance
  • Lust/pornography
  • Envy/jealousy
  • Anger/rage
  • Gossip/slander
  • Addictive behaviors: drugs, extramarital sex, negative self-talk, overwork, alcoholism, gluttony, gambling, overspending . . . false coping mechanisms for life's pain and disappointments.

Jesus is our OVERCOMER! PRAY - Old Rugged Cross!
