Topics: Palm Sunday, Jesus Christ
I. The Triumphal Entry As King of the Humble
- Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey (Zechariah 9:9).
- Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. For this reason, also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father (Philippians 2:5-11).
- Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many (Matthew 20:28).
II. The Triumphal Entry As King of Kings
- Saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me."The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them, and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their coats on them; and He sat on the coats (Matthew 21:2, 6-7).
- The king said to them, Take with you the servants of your lord, and have my son Solomon ride on my own mule, and bring him down to Gihon. "Let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there as king over Israel, and blow the trumpet and say, "Long live King Solomon!" Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne and be king in my place; for I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah? (1 Kings 1:33-35).
- And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS? (Revelation 19:16)
III. The Triumphal Entry As King of Our Hearts
- Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will dine with him, and he with Me (Revelation 3:20).
- Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful (Colossians 3:15).
- The crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed, were shouting, Hosanna to the Son of David; Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!? (Matthew 21:9).
