I. Saved by the Holy Spirit

* We must be born again of the Holy Spirit to be saved!

1. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation, having also believed (Ephesians 1:13a; see Romans 8:9-11).

2. Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, "You must be born again." (John 3:5, 7; see John 16:7, 8).

II. Sealed by the Holy Spirit

* We are protected by being God's own possession!

  1. In Him, you also, after listening to the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation, having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:13).
  2. Now He who establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us is God, who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge (2 Corinthians 1:21, 22).
  3. Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption (Ephesians 4:30).

III. Secure in the Holy Spirit

* We have the down payment as a foretaste of glory to follow!

  1. The Holy Spirit of promise, who is given as a pledge of our inheritance, with a view to the redemption of God's own possession, to the praise of His glory (Eph. 1:13 b, 14).
  2. For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge (2 Corinthians 5:4, 5).
  3. But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:37-39).

Life Group Flow and Discussion

Signed, Sealed, Delivered, I'm Yours

An important Guideline of Life Groups: The dynamic work of the Holy Spirit must be present at every Life Group meeting to be effective. How can you seek God more powerfully by being filled with the Holy Spirit (Eph 5:18)?

Getting Started

  1. How would you explain "the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation" (Eph 1:13)?
  2. Is the Holy Spirit welcome in your daily life? How is He transforming your life?

Discussing Truths

  1. Why are so many professing Christians insecure about their salvation (1 John 5:11-13)?
  2. How does this long Greek sentence (Eph 1:3-14) teach us that the purpose of our salvation is to result in the praise of God's glory?
  3. We need both the Holy Spirit and the Word of God inseparable in impacting our lives!
  4. How would you describe the evidence of the Holy Spirit in your life?

Now What? Application

  1. Will you commit to being filled with the Holy Spirit and pursuing Jesus as the key to experiencing closeness with Him, and not rely on your feelings?
  2. Pneumatology is the study or doctrine of the Holy Spirit. Do a Bible Study on the Person of the Holy Spirit and His dynamic influence in our lives. Pray to be filled with the Spirit!
