Who is on the throne?

Topics: God, Christians

sermon video

I. Who is directing and empowering your life?

* The Spirit of Jesus Christ waits for a yielded heart!

Examine the three types of people in 1 Corinthians 2:14-3:3.

Presentation

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18).

II. What is the fruit and focus of your life?

* The Holy Spirit brings lasting satisfaction to yielded hearts!

  1. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law (Galatians 5:22, 23).
  2. Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father; and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ (Ephesians 5:19-21).
  3. Our spiritual health and maturity requires spiritual breathing:
    a. Exhale = Confess your sins (homologeo) (1 John 1:9)
    b. Inhale = Be filled with the Spirit (Philippians 2:13)

Life Group Flow and Discussion Questions

Who is on the throne?

An important Guideline of Life Groups: Graciously encouraging one another with a "Throne Check" is helpful in keeping each person yielded to the Holy Spirit. Share some personal stories of how God directed and empowered your life in impacting another person.

Getting Started:

  1. Describe the three different people that Paul addressed in 1 Corinthians 2:14-3:3. How do the 3 descriptive titles "Dead, Defeated and Dangerous" apply to the spiritual battle?
  2. What is the difference between being indwelt with the Holy Spirit and being filled with the Holy Spirit? Is a thankful heart and satisfying life possible without being filled?

Discussing Truths:

1. Why is the Word of God an essential aspect of being filled with the Spirit of God?

2. How is worship and witness a fruitful result of being filled with the Spirit (Acts 1:8)?

Now What? Application:

  1. Pray and ask God to fill you with His Holy Spirit every day (1 John 5:14, 15).
  2. Seek to faithfully worship God in spirit and truth with your church family (John 4:23,24).
